iERP
IERP is a single software program that serves the needs of people in finance as well as it does the people in human resources and in the warehouse. ERP combines all departments together into a single, integrated software program that runs off a single database so that the various departments can more easily share information and communicate with each other.
ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) systems typically include the following characteristics:
- An integrated system that operates in real time (or next to real time), without relying on periodic updates. [Citation needed]
- A common database, which supports all applications.
- A consistent look and feel throughout each module.
- Installation of the system without elaborate application/data integration by the Information Technology (IT) department
- Implement aggressive project management processes.
- Implement pre-project readiness assessment and overall project planning.
- Develop dependency-driven project schedules that can be tracked and managed to provide early warnings and help avoid crises.
- Encourage functional ownership of the project.
- Ensure the project has sufficient budget.
- Communicate and manage expectations at "Go Live."
- Adequately resource your project (especially in the functional areas). Ensure that "backfills" are in place to release key team participants.
- Sell, sell, and continue to sell the ERP to your stakeholders.
